Hi guys, as the title, is it really different?. I have a small Server that running x64 and worldserver eat Ram as much as it can in 64 bit. But When i use worldserver 32bit, it look like does not eat more than 4Gb Ram, 1 day after running it, server auto crash. First i thought something make server crash, not 32bit worldserver. I wondering if in 32bit version, if worldserver process used larger than 4Gb Ram, is it automaticaly crash? :santaclaus:

Difference between 32bit and 64bit?

Honestly, you should search Google for that question.

Here's some quick information below though.

What is the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows?

The terms 32-bit and 64-bit refer to the way a computer's processor (also called a CPU), handles information. The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system.

Of course there's a difference. If there wasn't a difference why would there be two choices? RAM consumption is really dependent on how many players are online and generally running scripts, etc - as far as I've known.

I seriously doubt the reason for your worldserver crashing is 32 or 64 bit difference. Do you have any custom scripts? Anything that you know what could cause a crash? What is your server's exact RAM consumption while it is running? Need more information honestly.

I have testing them so much before i post here. For a simple example, 64bit running with 20 players in 2 days and it reached to 8Gb Ram, my server alway in status 95-97% Memory Usage, i remember the last time i check that my server has 5 day online before i restart it. In 32bit, it cost lower Ram, but i checked server time, after reach 4Gb Ram, it some how crash event when server has 0 player online. And they has the same custom script :santaclaus::santaclaus::santaclaus:

TL;DR difference in 32/64: You can only run a max of 3.9GB RAM on a 32bit Operating System.

TL;DR difference in WoW arch: None. You can compile a 32bit worldserver and run it on a 64bit machine and still use over 4GB of ram. There is no reason to compile in 64bit imo.

After long time trying using 32bit worldserver in window server 2008 64bit, i would say worldserver 32bit keeping crash everyday when it reach about 4Gb Ram, in 64bit it would take to 8Gb Ram, but very very stable, no crash at all.
