Hello, want to help with one of Nomsoftware's games? No? Great!

I started this project a few weeks ago. It is in Unity 4 and I've gotten a lot of stuff done. If you want, you can give me features you have in mind that I could possibly add, it wouldn't hurt!

Current TODO list (not everything is on there):

~ GUI ~
  • * Main Menu scene needs to be created (Buttons(for now..): Play, Options and Exit)
  • * GUI Skins for both Main Menu, PlanetGUI and UnitGUI will need to be done. (Note: PlanetGUI and UnitGUI will share the same skin, so only one skin needs to be made)
  • * GUI will need to be redone to make it have a more appealing look. Perhaps a larger bottom actionbar that will hold all actions within it
  • * PlanetGUI and UnitGUI components will need to be made (COMPLETED)

~ Planets ~
  • * Player start planets will have random resources once the game starts
  • * Other Planets will randomly spawn
  • * Other Planets will have 4 static resources and 2 will be dynamic, automatically chosen once the game starts
  • * Uncolonized Planets will need to have a citizen population before you can do anything (get resources, etc)
  • * Planets that has a colony will get more people over time depending on how you treat them (keep everyone happy, etc)
  • * Planets will need to have food and water for the people to work harder and stay happy
  • * Some Planets will be unstable to build a military on, so you'll have to do without. HOWEVER, you can still build defenses on the outside of the Planet to protect it
  • * To take Planets from the enemies you will need to get transport ships, load up your military from your Planet(s), go to the enemies planet and start dropping your infantry off on the planet. There will be a progress bar to tell you how you and the enemy are doing
  • * Be able to click on a Planet to show a menu (COMPLETED)
  • * Be able to create Units and Defenses (COMPLETED)
  • * Make a Queue System for the Units and Defenses (COMPLETED)

~ Units ~
  • * There will be Infantry transport units, resource transport units, Spaceship units (attack unit) and other types of units that need to be thought of and made
  • * Units will be upgradable
  • * Be able to click a Unit and a menu appear (COMPLETED)
  • * Be able to move units (COMPLETED)

~ Defenses ~
  • * You might only have 4 turret defenses as a limit, but they will be powerful once upgraded
  • * Turrets are upgradable

with old school starcraft in mind . you could use science vessels to search for minable planets or recon ships to show cloaked vessels. heavy battle ship, light attack ship. leveling technology(build this research facility to gain this ability for x location/planet).
ohhh depending on how in depth you wanna go on the planets lol you could set it up so you could land on an inhabited planet and setup shop for your own comunity and try to take the planet over once you think you have enough forces built..

No sides, you'll start as a neutral player. Each resource will be farmable depending on the resources on the planet. If a particular resource doesn't exist that you need, then you will need to have transport ships to bring it to that particular planet. Each type of unit will be customizable by choice, it won't be the same old typical unit each time it's made. This goes for defenses and the planet itself - upgrades, etc.

tommy let me know if you need any spaceship models made. i have a very good mind for creating 3d models in wings3d. i dont do animations but unity handels them very well if ya know how to use their system. i used to use unity when it first came out. last version i used was 3

but i sucked at animation and skinning so i gave up on it.

I could use a modeler. I use 3DS Max, export them in FBX format with awesome exporting settings and they work great in Unity - and yes, knowing how to import assets is a must in Unity.

ill see what kind of models i can come up with. ill add them on here with screens when im done making them lol.

here is a model i made in about 3 mins.
if you want low poly. if not then just use the smoothe tool.
till u get the desired look. as you will see i model in tris not quads.

i perfer triangles than quads because you get a better surface. and less shading anomalies. lol

anyways im not a skinner so u will need someone that knows how to skin.

let me know if you like the concept.

but before you throw it away smooth it a bit in max. it looks sick at 10,000 polys lol

NOTE: i also added the wings file if you have wings3d you can open the original project and export to whatever you need.

think how awesome it would be if i took my time and worked on it for a week LOL

i can do even lower poly than this but it gets a bit blocky looking. i hate blocky looking shit LOL


Ill edit this post and add more different models when i have time to make them as i go ill add them here!
you can have them free of charge. and i want a free copy of your game when it comes out LOL!!!

Is Wing all you know how to make stuff in? Every model you have, I open them in 3DS and they always mess up very horribly. I'm pretty sure it's the program to program inconsistency.

i cant afford 3ds max and i dont know any other program like this one other than that. there is directx .x output and there is wavefront .obj too if those will work. and the project files are in the zip too


i think its an older 3d studio format not for max

Well, the only problem is that the models are malformed and look nothing like what you have in your screenshot. I can get you 3DS if you want it. Models might be fine via Unity if you exported them in a different format supported by Unity.
