Hey , I think I choose the most weird titles for my threads .
Anyway I have couple of questions that would require multiple threads and I wasn't sure if I could ask about modeling in the modeling sub forum. Is that just for release and share? or is it also for requests and support?

1- I plan to use custom models since I have a custom story going on and I've several sources that I can get 3D models from for free.
But I'm not sure about their licenses , alot of models out there are the ripped ones , models that are ripped from other games .
I know that having a private server is just as illegal but I feel that risk of getting sued over using some other game's models is far greater.
So I was wondering what are your thoughts on this matter? Cause I'm interested in some models that are from fairly new games .
for example dead space 3 , duke nukem , darksiders II and so on.

2- Tell me what do u think about this? cause I've seen this below some model files :

only for:
Educational purposes
Fan art
Game mod
Machinima

Does a private server with customized patches goes into Game mods ? and what does it mean for Educational purposes?

3- I understand that this question might belong to somewhere else but I want to ask it all in one place , What is the format of video looping at login screen? I want to have a custom login page but I don't know what format I can use , or if I can actually use my own material at all?

4-Is it possible to add custom voices to the server as well? either for npc or a music for area-theme . Would copy-right law apply to them?

Use whatever models you like, not a shit will be given by any of the above.

The login screen is am m2 if I'm not wrong, have a look at modcraft, they have tutorials on how to go about changing this.

Yes, you can add your own music and voices, requires a sound file, then adding it to the required dbcs.

Hm I think you are right but all it takes is one a~hole reporting you and then you can get sued for using their material.
so I need to know what other members also think on this , but thanks for your opinion Foe.

and I will look into those tutorials , I've ripped an animation off warcraft III to use as login page but it doesn't render well and most of the time sky is missing.

The thing is, you're not worth suing by anyone really.. You have no money tied up in the project even worth pursuing. The cost of filing a lawsuit itself is more than you would be capable of paying back, so you'd be am expense for no reason. They might send you a cease and desist letter, but they wouldn't go as far as suing you.
