I have Windows 8 on my computer in my office. I hate it.
Wait for Windows 10, as a "normal" programmer, you don't benefit from Windows 8 at all.

Not necessarily correct. There are a few changes to the kernel between 7 and 8 that are very beneficial. File copy is a lot faster, it also supports direct x 12, faster network connectivity. Under the hood, it's more optimized than Windows 7, which are exactly the things as a developer you should be happy about. The user interface on the other hand is horrible. Last but not least, Windows 10 is even worse when it comes to the user interface.

I honestly think it depends on your computer, the Interface is not that hard to get used to. Now what does matter is if you're running a SSD or a mechanical drive. If you're running a mechanical drive you're really not going to like Windows 8, all the indexing and searching is not nearly as pleasant when compared to a machine running a SSD. I use 8.1 on my PC, and honestly after running it for about a year now I like it much more than Windows 7 as far as responsiveness and performance.

I believe questions like this all come down to user preference, I'm a win7 guy. I tried win8 but vomited

I played with w8, it's not very good, way too buggy for me, wait for windows 10, it's right around the corner as is better for stuff like trinitycore etc.

w8 a big disappointment

w7 best atm

w10 will probably be best at release

Thanks for answers, guys , girls if we have any ^.^

Looks like a sausage fest to me.

I have to agree with Faded on this one. It's best to install it yourself, see how it is and judge it. Everyone will have mixed opinions about it and that makes it confusing. Take in account what Foereaper said at least, since most fixes and upgrades are beneficial.

How do you mean buggy? And how do you know that windows 10 will be the best?!?

I love how people base their opinion form what they heard from someone/somewhere. Windows 8 is better than windows 7, and the metro mode is acutally very good and well impemented idea, but of cource when 90% of your users are not open for new things they pull you back, not because your technology is bad, but because they are not ready to undestand it. So what happened is that everybody started crying about windows 8 being crap because of the missing start button (what an valid argument....) and then it turns into public opinion that windows 7 is better which is bullshit. Windows 8x is better, if you are open for new things try it, if you are old fasion and you don't like changes stick with windows 7 and wait for windows 10. Microsoft is spending a lot to put their new ideas/technologies into the old interface in order to make their dump users happy (don't get it personally, i am talking about the mass of people).

About bugginess.. There are times when you can no longer open metro unless you restart the machine or similar.
Also you cant shut down opened windows.
Havent really noticed or cant remember others..

I have used windows 7 for years and windows 8 for 6 months.
The metro might be good and well (I dont think so), but its slow as hell and caused drop in work performance not to mention it's navigation does not fit to the way you operate a desktop.
They have picked out various really useful features of the resource control and elsewhere since win XP, but seems some were reintroduced on win 8 and probably are still in win 10, which is a huge plus.
Actually there is a lot of new features and improvements in windows 8 that are really useful. I would probably choose windows 8 over 7, more so if there werent the metro changes.
Ready installed skype which doesnt allow me to log to my account .. yeah, screw that.
Dont know about windows 10 though .. hm

Its simple as on windows to play wow on linux. If you have any troubles and you don't feel like you know how to troubleshoot and fix the thing yourself, you just too gooogle with something like: how to play <game> on <your_distro>. or something like: problem playing <game> on <your_distro>, in 90% of the cases you get the answer in first 3 suggestions. In other 10% (rare cases) you need to spend extra 15 minutes and try idfferent searches to find what you need.
