After creating a custom spell yesterday to work on my tutorial I started getting the wild idea to take cataclysm/MoP spells and port them into wotlk. It doesn't seem like it would be to difficult. Almost 90% of the spell mechanics are stored in DBC's while few spells are actually written into the core, I'm speaking of TrinityCore anyway. I know i could do the DBC work for a port such as this, it would all have to be manually done but i'm wondering if anyone knows if this would not be possible? The only thing I'm stuck on would be getting the visual aspects to function 100% but I'm sure with all the latest cata/mop ports it wouldn't be very hard to get some spells ported over. Anyway, it's just a thought. I also know that this would require a client mod and a bit of work because they changed a couple things dealing with the "Power" required to cast the spell and certain spells requiring certain auras, for example paladin's holy light spell requires holy charges to be cast. Also i would have to steal some visual aspects from the cata client to put into the wotlk client, like how warlocks soul stones are used/displayed, and how paladin's holy light is displayed/used as well. What i'm also thinking of while working on this is the talents associated with these new patches, I honestly liked cataclysm talents better than MoP but if i did a MoP spell port i would obviously have to port the talents as well so that the spells would function correctly.
Again, this is just a wild idea and may or may not be possible. If anyone has any ideas please let me know, as i would love to give this a try.
