I want to use my brothers laptop to host my server, and it's running Archlinux. I'm not familiar with Linux at all but what my brother said was Arch has the same libraries and dependencies but just more up-to-date, and he succesfully compiled TC (without Eluna) before on it.

Just to verify, would compiling, and keeping the core up-to-date on Arch be possible without posing any issues? Or is it even a problem if I use any Linux at all for Eluna?

It goes for any unix distribution, it can't be more up to date than others. It's similar to Gentoo and uses rolling releases which means they keep their packages updated daily with snapshot releases.
They just give the user more control of keeping up to date rather than waiting in between releases. if you wanted to, you could keep up to date on any distro but you would have to find all the updated
packages yourself, ArchLinux just provides it which is cool.

It should compile and run just fine on it, the only thing you would have to keep an eye on is the packages you're keeping up to date. But since they are just dependencies, you shouldn't have to worry so much.

so if tl;dr, yea it will work.
