[SOLVED] Linux server unstable

I have a linux VPS from www.epichosts.co.uk - Server seems very unstable, even tho the upload / download speed is great.

Here's my specs:
~2.7GHz CPU
1 core
1GB RAM
75GB HDD Space

Do I need to get more RAM / cores? Because I'm aware that the ram and core is very low on my host, but I didn't think I'd need more than this.

Are you having an emulator running there?
What does unstable mean?
Crashing? Lagging?

Not exactly a hosting expert .. and I have never had a server.. but..
More than 1 GB RAM would probably be a good investment. I dont know what exactly would be optimal and it might depend on your configuration, but most likely 4 GB would be enough or at least 2GB. Cores are RAM hogs and simply having the worldserver on will consume over 1 GB RAM, not counting in already used RAM or data needed to load for players etc, which means your machine needs to store parts of the data on HDD which slows things a lot.

More cores would also be better for speed as there are multiple programs running on the server such as mysql and the core and auth and so on and they use multiple threads as well which are useless and only slow things on single core machine. Maybe at least 2?
Faster CPU would ofcourse also speed things up.

You should try monitor the RAM and CPU usage etc. on the server and try to see where the actual bottleneck is and what would be best to upgrade.
For example if RAM is totally used (like it should be from what I see) then more would be needed.
There are also a lot of configuration options for mysql and the core and so which you could take a look at.

Getting some actual data is always better than ppl guessing.

I've never seen the words 'Linux' and 'unstable' in the same sentence before.
You can have 128MB of ram and still run a stable linux server.

Unless you're talking about your WoW Server being unstable. If your Dedi or VPS is unstable then it's your host. I have
looked into the site you linked and I notice it's just a reseller, you might want to find another location. There are so many places with great prices.

Regardless though, now adays 1GB of ram will only get you so far. So I would upgrade from another provider

it is likely more to do with it being a VPS and not a dedicated server.

In review of your specs (2.7GHz + 1GB) that is a VERY small platform for hosting anything other than a website (which is what most VPS's are designed for). That would be like running the server from a laptop and expecting optimal performance.

This isn't to say its NOT doable, but it is not optimal.

This also has nothing to do with Linux or the emulator. VPS is a Virtual machine running typically with other Virtual machines on the same hardware. If all Virtual machines are processing at the same time there is a distributed lag (for lack of better words); which would not affect things like a web server but would affect an emulator.

To get optimal performance you should have a quad processors and 2-4GB and it should be dedicated.

Hmm, I'm not sure if you understand VPS entirely. Yes there are multiple guests sharing resources on a host system, but the resources for example '1GB Ram' is fully dedicated to that single VPS, it's not shared.
So if you setup 8 virtual servers on a 16GB Host and give 2GB to each vps, they are bound to that limit.

The only difference between dedicated and vps is one uses it's entire resources and the other is split up in resources.

I know I'm a bit off topic here, I just though I should address it, because the problem is not that it's a VPS. I'm pretty sure it's because it's only 1GB and on a reseller.
