Sorry folks, we talked about this section earlier and 4/5 posts we have to edit and link the rules because nobody reads them.

Because of this, we removed the advertisement section. Sorry everyone! You can still use offsite links if they are in the bbcode though.

Just an idea, not questioning any staff decisions, actions et cetera, just an idea.
Probably you could put some "quiz" with questions related to the rules to allow uesrs to post threads in certain sections.

That might be an interesting thing to do. What makes me mad is people accept the rules when registering and don't read them, thinking they can do whatever they want to. We thought about putting new threads in moderation queue in the Server Advertisement section, but that wouldn't change the fact that people still don't read. Ceases to amaze me. :/

Well is hard to make people read something they are not interested to but few questions quiz will at least make them to open the rules page and search for the answer.
So if you do that together with moderator queue i think you won't be raging on two posts users with not well formated server advertisment threads.

What's funny is when people register while accepting the rules page, there's a count down on "I agree" before they can continue.
So I assume they just sit there and stare at the screen instead of looking at the rules, waiting for the count down to finish.

its like reading a TOS, or EULA you always press accept, tho i do think people would have to read them, cant you like,
Make a JS alert when posting, and a checklist they have to accept, inb4 the post gets actually posted?
Explaining them what can, or can not be in the thread?

We do have, above "Quick Reply" and in "Advanced Mode" a box telling you to follow our basic rules. It is right in front of everyone before they submit a new thread or reply. Can't see how we're suppose to make rules on this site more obvious. It's people who don't care, which they get banned or get their thread/post removed for not caring. We can only give so many warnings.

True, you got a major point there, sorry i forgot about that for a second.
Maybe a timer requiring them to read it, i.e after someone pressed post, it scrolls up the page, once timer ran out an accept button appears.
When they accept, it gets posted, if breaking a rule, revoke access from posting there in the future?

I'm just trying to come up with a solution that works out for everyone, pardon my ignorance.

Nah, timer does not work. Actually i've been always wondering why sites are continuing to use them. If a user is not willing to read the rules, not matter what timer you put on, he won't read em. He will just open new tab with facebook or 9gag or whatever and will wait until the count down finish.
On other hand few "yes or no questions" would definitely do the job. Click new thread and a page appears: "Are you allowed to post links in recruitment topic?" Yes/No? Its obvious. If not there is 50% chase to choose the correct answer and 100% to learn that you are not allowed to. Yes, the user still will not read the rules, but at least he will learn one of them. Which is better than noting and will keep the forum more or less clean.

It's actually not a bad idea.. I could even make a custom forum page with multiple choice questions.

That is what i meant lol.
A timer with check-box questions require at least a certain percentage to continue to actually POST.
tho your plan works, Nice one.

isnt there a way to.. force a webpage as main view?

The fact is your forum is looking like another forum (global design I mean) so people think the rules are the same everywhere (and it's the case with 99.9% forums).

EmuDevs looks like no other forums and our rules have been shown and enforced since day one. The fact is people simply do not read.

Lol your forum looks like another forum : I mean it has squares, rectangles, avatars, etc.
Don't feel offended. I prefer your dark theme too ! ;)

And that's what I said, people do not read because they think it's the same kind of forums. I almost made the same mistake but I remembered it wasn't allowed.

Yeah, I look at it like a TOS agreement, I mean.. who reads that shit? Just click I agree.
I'm just trying to keep our rules known and enforced without throwing it in the members faces, just wanted this site to be a place to get legit help

It's vBulletin, vBulletin will always look like vBulletin. Pointing it out is irrelevant since it's obvious. Our forum skin does look different from most since it is custom to us, but it still has that vBulletin look. If people think the rules are the same just because you're implying people think the design is the same, then they are stupid. Every forum has different rules, besides the very most basic rules (trolling, insulting, etc). Not sure where you received this bit of information but it is wrong, very wrong.

What site doesn't have "squares, rectangles and avatars?" You're practically pointing out every single website on the web fitting that description, forum or not. And again, not sure where you're getting your information but people do not read because they don't care to, not because they think the rules on the forum are the same (which if they do, again, they are dumb).

We explicitly told people to read the rules and they did not. We removed the section because of it. It is not a matter of forums being the same or other people using the same forum software, it is the fact that people DO NOT CARE to use their most basic skill: reading.

P.S: Not sure what you wrote was offensive, because it wasn't.
